DIY Canvas Light Wall Hanging
Looking for ways to spruce up your home without breaking the bank? In only three steps, you’ll have yourself a Pinterest-worthy piece of décor that won’t hurt your wallet. Canvas lights are a great way to create a cozy ambiance for your kid's bedroom as well as for just about any other room in your home. The best part is this project is easy to make using just a few basic materials you may already have or can easily find at local craft and hardware stores.
Start creating your very own DIY canvas light, following these simple steps:
Step 1
First, gather or purchase all the materials you need at your favorite craft and hardware stores. You may even already have some or all of the things you need lying around at home, so be sure to check there first before going shopping!
Items you’ll need
- Canvas of your choice
- Fast-drying acrylic paint (or regular poster paint)
- Paint brush
- Masking tape
- LED string lights
- Craft knife
Step 2
Before you start painting your project, place old newspapers to cover the work area and avoid stains on your table or floor. Carefully lay your canvas on your work surface. Next, decide what type of background you want to set the lights in. It may be an eclectic mix of bold colors or simple scenery, or you can add your favorite quote, the lyrics of a song, or a line from a book you love. Be as abstract or as elaborate as you want. Start painting your masterpiece by using fast-drying acrylic paint or your regular poster paint. You can also make interesting patterns and add texture using glitters or colored sand. Once you’re done, let your artwork dry for a few hours.
Step 3
After the paint has set, it is time to start installing the LED lights. Turn your canvas over and use a pencil to carefully mark the areas where you intend to place your lights. Make sure to space the holes as far apart as the lights are on their actual string. When you are satisfied with the layout, pierce a small hole through your marked spots with a sharp craft knife. Carefully push each bulb through the holes and secure it with masking tape. Repeat the process until all the lights are in place.
Your masterpiece is now ready! Hang it up on the wall, hit the switch, and enjoy your very own hand-crafted DIY canvas light. For sure, this is a great way to add character to your space without spending too much. You can even gather your family, children and friends and make this into a fun group project. Try it out and let us know what you think!
