5 Creative Ways to
Relieve Mom Stress
Play With Your Kids
That's right, you read that right: being with your kids rather than trying to get away from them sometimes can be the greatest stress reliever of all. Why get frustrated with your kids when instead you could be playing alongside them enjoying each other? You'll be surprised about how calming it is to bring your inner child out year round whether you do things with your children like sledding in winter, jumping in a pile of fall leaves, going on an I Spy nature hunt in spring, or camping out in the backyard at the peak of summer.
Rising 30 minutes before anyone else in the family is awake to enjoy an uninterrupted cup of coffee or tea or to read a good book or magazine is another great strategy to inject some zen penicillin into your day before it even starts. You'll be surprised at how heavenly this is and how much more cheerful and energetic you'll be when the troops start tumbling out of bed to get ready to start their own days.
Take a Hike Around the Neighborhood
It's a scientific fact that stress can really build up if you are too sedentary, sitting around too much. So it makes sense to get up and move around at least every hour throughout the day. You may not have the stamina, time to go to the gym seven days per week or be into doing some pilates or floor exercises at home, but most of us can easily squeeze in some me-time daily to take a 30-minute walk to relieve some of that pent up tension.
Treat Yourself to a Massage, Facial or ManicureGetting regular exercise is only part of my stress busting formula. Another easy and indulgent way to burn off tenseness is to make an appointment to visit your favorite spa or nail palor. If your budget doesn't permit going out for a beauty treatment, why not take a hour off, put your feet up and give yourself an at-home manicure and/or pedicure? Whatever you do you'll feel better when you are good to yourself because us hard working moms deserve and need a little pampering now and then.
Go to a Movie in the Middle of the Day
This little trick works wonders to help you temporarily escape the hectic homelife of raising kids. Most moms I know say they never go to the movie theater either because they're too tired or they don't have time. These same mothers tell me that there's a movie in theaters right now that they really want to see. So what's stopping you from getting a babysitter for a few hours and going to see the film you've been obsessed with either alone or with a few friends?
RESCUE Pastilles
Since stress comes with the territory of mom-ing, in addition to these great stress buster strategies there's also a product called RESCUE Pastilles by Bach of Switzerland that I've tried and would like to tell you about. These alcohol-free chewy lozenges, which come in Black Currant, Orange & Elderflower, Cranberry and Lemon flavors, are derived from flowers and provide homeopathic natural stress relief. Non-habit forming, these are for adults and children age 12+. RESCUE Pastilles are just one of a collection of RESCUE products by Bach that you'll find at Walgreen's, CVS, Whole Foods Market and many other major retailers nationwide.
