Westminster Puppy Also-Rans:
Don't Drown Yourselves in the Cake Batter Bowl Just Yet
by Janis Brett Elspas
That's right: Westminster Wannabes, you Heinz 57s have another chance to strut your stuff -- with your tongues fully sticking out, no less. Best of all, one lucky dog among you (a mutt, of course, who else?) will receive The View's coveted Pedigree Dogs Rule award this Friday.
The upcoming show airing Friday, February 19 from 11 a.m. to noon EST will feature The View's exclusive Westminster behind-the-scenes interview with Sadie, the very smug Scottish Terrier that won Best in Show at this year's dog show yesterday. Asked my almost 13 year-old daughter who wants to be a veterinarian, upon seeing a photo of the Westminster prize winner in the Los Angeles Times this morning, "I don't get it. What do those judges see in that hairy black thing, anyway?"
Mutts, hold the howling, please.
That's because this prelude of a canine conversation is a perfect companion to The 2nd Annual Mutt Show, The View's tongue-in-cheek spoof on the other, much better known competition. This will most certainly give underdogs one leg up on the competition as human dog lovers everywhere will be tuning in to see a parade that can be likened to the Doo Dah Parade's parody on the Rose Bowl Parade -- only The View's version will include select viewers and their dogs, as well as showcase some beautiful, personable adoptable dogs that are seeking families to love. What's more is that actress Bernadette Peters , with her own faithful four-legged child at her side, will help inspire all the onstage dog park-style pageantry. Here's a sneak peek
The big question is: Will Barbara Walters or any of the other The View regulars be bringing their better halves with four legs, too? Your guess is as good as mine, so I suppose we'll all just have to wait to find out.
One thing is for sure, it sounds like animal lovers have a reality dog show that celebrates man's truest of best friends to look forward to at week's end.
